Himeji City is located in the central part of the Harima Plains in the southwest of Hyogo Prefecture. It has been developed as a hub for traffic in Western Japan since ancient times. Himeji is a rich repository of history; Himeji Castle, a National Treasure and World heritage; old rows of houses which produce an atmosphere of an old castle town; shrines and temples of distinctive grace, and so on. Himeji lies nestled between the gently undulating mountains with beautiful countryside at the foot and the calm Inland Sea. Many excellent films chose Himeji for location; "You Only Live Twice" starring Sean Connery, "Kagemusha" and "Ran" directed by a great director Akira Kurosawa are among them. The more recent one is "The Last Samurai" starring Tom Cruise. The experienced staff of the Film Commission who know fully about on-location shooting and local people who are eager to help develop film culture in Himeji. We all extend a cordial welcome to you!
