Daycare centers

Daycare centers provide childcare service for households in which both parents are working full time. The centers are also available when a mother cannot look after her child due to pregnancy, childbirth or caring for a sick family member. School education


Education stages and enrollment procedures

Kindergarten
Kindergartens offers education programs for pre-school-age children three to five years of age (38 city-run kindergartens accepts five-year-olds only; 26 kindergartens accept four- and five-year olds). Kindergartens focus on enhancing children's mental and physical development. For enrollment, complete necessary procedures at the kindergarten. Elementary and junior high schools
Children from age 6 to 15 must take mandatory education courses in elementary school and junior high school, or schools for the blind, deaf or disabled. Textbooks for elementary and junior high schools are provided free of charge. These textbooks are screened by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Elementary schools and some junior high schools provide lunch services (paid).

High schools
Entry to a high school is permitted for those who have graduated from junior high schools and passed the entrance exam. High schools offer different courses, including general, vocational and integrated studies. Junior high schools are responsible for application procedures for their students who wish to enter high school.
