Engyoji Temple, once one of the three biggest training centers of the Tendai sect, is nestled on a peaceful mountain. Many buildings and statues are designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan. Founded in 966 by Shoku,a holy Buddhist priest, the temple is noted as a pilgrimage site. The Hollywood movie“The Last Samurai”featuring Tom Cruise was shot here.

Transportation:Take a Shinki bus from Himeji sta. to the final stop, then it's a four min. ride by Ropeway.
Operating Hours: summer(8:30am-6:00pm, Holiday - 7:00pm), winter(8:30am - 5:00pm)
