The Local Specialties of Himeji
Local Sake
There are ten sake breweries located in Himeji. Brewing has flourished in Himeji because this area has long been known for its excellent rice.
Kamaboko (steamed or boiled paste cake)

Kamaboko is one of the Himeji specialties made from fresh fish.
A variety of local sweets

Try to taste various specialty sweets like Karinto (fried sweets, photo abobve), Kinuta (rice cakes stuffed with sweet bean paste), Tamatsubaki (photo below), and Gozasoro (pancakes stuffed with sweet bean paste).
Yume-soba

Yume-soba noodles are made from buckwheat cultivated in the Yumesaki area of Himeji.
Anago conger eel dishes

The sea off Himeji produces a wide variety of fresh seafood. Anago (conger eel) dishes are particularly popular.
Yuzu food

Syrup, marmalade and sauce made from "yuzu", a citrus fruit, cultivated in Himeji are very popular.
Himeji Oden

Oden is a Japanese dish containing vegetables, eggs, meat and various ingredients cooked in a special broth. Himeji people eat Oden in a unique way, with soy sauce and ginger.
